Ronald Willliam Poulton [later Poulton Palmer](1889-1915) is reported by the 1911 Annual Report of the Pitt Rivers Museum to have volunteered at the Pitt Rivers Museum working on the 'important collection of palaeolithic flint implements discovered in Priory Bay, I. of Wight, and presented by Professor E.B. Poulton in 1910'. He was the son of Edward Bagnall Poulton, Hope professor of zoology at the University of Oxford. He was educated at Rugby School and Balliol College, Oxford from where he graduated in 1911 with a second class degree in engineering. He was a very good rugby player who played for the University and for the national side. He worked for the family firm of Huntley and Palmer (from which he later took his second surname in 1914) and was killed in the first world war. See his ODNB entry
