Painted pot, USA

One possible method of decorating pottery is to paint directly on to the surface of the pot. This large vessel from Faras in Sudan has been decorated with painted human figures. It was excavated from a cemetery in 1910. It dates from the 1st–3rd centuries AD, and may well have been buried in a grave.
