Decorated pot, Nigeria

This Nupe pot has been decorated with painted figures of chickens and guinea fowl, reflecting Nupe artists’ admiration for animal and bird forms. Amongst the Hausa, water pots like these were given to brides at weddings. The birds symbolized good luck.
