Ribbed pot, Nigeria

Amongst the Igbo of Nigeria pots are often sculpted in great swirls of raised ridges, as can be seen with this pot’s bold ribbed designs. In West Africa it is commonly believed that artistic activity may affect a woman’s fertility – amongst the Igbo pregnant women may not make pots.
