Career Natural Historian / Museum Professional
Biography Museum assistant also described as laboratory assistant, later Senior Laboratory Steward, who worked in Department of Geology at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. He started work in the Museum in 1907 and retired in 1957, a total of 50 years service. Colleague to Charles Bayzand [qv] who worked in the Department of Geology, University of Oxford for at least 20 years. A Herbert J. Hambidge is listed in the 1901 census aged 9 born and living in Oxford who is probably the same person. During the First World War he served in the Oxon and Bucks Light infantry according to OUMNH Annual Report, 1915: 5. He was recorded in the 1940 OUMNH annual report as still working at the museum [Alison Petch [as part of 'The Other Within' project 2006-9] 25/01/2007]
