Biography Worked at the Pitt Rivers Museum from 1885, Curator of the Museum from 1891 until 1939 when he died. In 1904 he was appointed research fellow at Exeter College. In 1887 he married Edith Marie Louise, they had one son. President of the Royal Anthropological Institute in 1904, the Museums Association in 1909, Folklore Society in 1923-4 and Royal Geographical Society from 1936-8 and Prehistoric Society of East Anglia [later Prehistoric Society]. Elected fellow of the Royal Society in 1924. In 1935 the University of Oxford conferred on him the title of Professor. He lived at Langley Lodge, Headington in Oxford.
