Biography Politician and college head. He was a practising lawyer on the Northern circuit, and from 1874 he was the Vinerian reader in law. He became Warden of All Souls in 1881, and Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University in 1898, resigning after a year to become one of two MPs for the University.
