ENGLAND: THE OTHER WITHIN

Analysing the English Collections at the Pitt Rivers Museum

Searching databases about objects and people

When the Other Within research project was active special databases were created which gave access to data about the objects and photographs in the Pitt Rivers Museum collections from England, the people who were associated with the objects and some of the objects that the Oxfordshire County Museums Service and Ashmolean hold from Oxfordshire. As the time between the end of the project and now has extended this information has become more and more obsolete. A decision has been taken to close down the links to the data as prepared by the Other Within research team and to direct visiting researchers to the Museum's main collections databases instead.

  • If you are interested in finding out about the English objects in the Pitt Rivers Museum please go here and select Object Collections (Please note that to find all the objects from England you will need to search using the word 'England' in the Region field)
  • If you are interested in finding out about the English objects in the Pitt Rivers Museum please go here  and select Photograph Collections (Please note that to find all the photos from England you will need to search using the word 'England' in the Region field)
  • Some of the biographies for people who are associated with the English collections at the Pitt Rivers Museum are detailed here. Please look either under Key Players or People Database.
  • For information about the Oxfordshire County Museums Service Oxfordshire collections please consult that body direct.
  • For information about the Ashmolean Museum's Oxfordshire collections please consult the Department of Antiquities of that museum direct.

There was a separate method for searching the Pitt Rivers Museum's objects, photographs and individuals databases, created during the Other Within project, to use these please follow the links. This data is still available, but please note that it has not been possible to update the datasets for several years and if you want accurate, up-to-the-minute, data then you should follow the advice in the previous paragraphs.
