Recycling and Music 25 March 2000 - 8 September2002 Transpositions - The Sound of Recycling' The Pitt Rivers Museum has such a rich collection of recycled musical instruments that a complementary exhibition on recycled musical instruments, entitled Transpositions: The Sound of Recycling, is on display at the Balfour Galleries, Pitt Rivers Museum Annexe, 60 Banbury Road, Oxford. The exhibition includes instruments from the Museum's worldwide ethnographic collections as well as apparently 'straight' Western musical instruments. An example of the latter is an old English five-string viol that has been converted in to a four-string viola in the late 18th or 19th century. Neither the ebony finger-board nor the tailpiece are original. Please click on the pictures for enlargements and captions.
