Miniature quern, Algeria

This is a miniature quern – a stone mill for grinding corn by hand. It was probably made for a child in imitation of querns used by adults. The miniature version would be intended as a play thing, but also to teach the child about adult life and roles. This quern belonged to a Chaouia Berber girl.
