Decorated bowl, Egypt

The earliest forms of pottery decoration in ancient Egypt were animal and scenic motifs painted in white slip on a red body. This bowl from El Amrah dates from the pre-dynastic period (some 6000 years ago) and is decorated with representations of animals, and possibly plants. It was excavated from a cemetery.
