Water pot, USA

Southwestern pottery is decorated with established patterns and symbols, including clouds, rain, lightning, and birds. These appear on both prehistoric and modern pots. This water pot was made some time before 1884, and has been painted with images of cloud, rain, lightning, and road-runners. Road-runners are large birds native to New Mexico and Arizona, known for their distinctive head crests and running speed.
