This pin has been inlaid with kingfisher feathers. The Chinese have used kingfisher feathers for producing body ornaments since the Han dynasty (at least 1500 years ago). The kingfisher symbolizes happiness and marital fidelity. The pin was bought in the city of Siu Fui, in Szechuan province, in China, in 1907.
