Necklace, India

The Hindu necklace from India is comprised of 48 identical gilded snakes pointing outwards. In Hinduism, snakes are linked with several gods and goddesses including Shiva, who is often depicted wreathed in snakes. Snake imagery is extremely common in Hindu art, and indeed snakes themselves are seen as sacred and are worshipped.
