Brooches and pins are often purely decorative. However, their original
use was to fasten clothes, as with this brooch from Suffolk, collected
in 1915. It is made from an iron ring and wooden pin, and was used
by agricultural labourers to fasten old sacks over their shoulders
in wet weather.
