ParaguayStringwork shirt from Paraguay, Americas. Collected by Andrew Pride of the South American Missionary Society. Given to the Museum in 1908.

This shirt of string is in fact a piece of defensive armour and was described by its collector, Andrew Pride, as the local 'answer to a coat of mail'. It was apparently a prized possession to the warlike Toothli people of Paraguay and was rarely parted with.
