Stringwork shirt (1908.25.2)

ParaguayParaguayStringwork shirt from Paraguay, Americas. Collected by Andrew Pride of the South American Missionary Society. Given to the Museum in 1908.

This shirt of string is in fact a piece of defensive armour and was described by its collector, Andrew Pride, as the local 'answer to a coat of mail'. It was apparently a prized possession to the warlike Toothli people of Paraguay and was rarely parted with.
