The Pitt Rivers Museum divides its collections into rough groups of archaeology, ethnography or a mixture (sometimes, as in this case called Other).

Number of items defined as archaeological in second collection: 9722

Number of items defined as ethnographic: 9773

Number of items defined as other: 924

Percentage of items defined as archaeological in second collection: 47.6

Percentage of items defined as ethnographic: 47.9

Percentage of items defined as other: 4.5

Unlike the founding collection which was was more than half archaeological (54.3 per cent), the second collection is very evenly split between ethnographic and archaeological objects.

Note that missing from this table, except in the global row, are those items without specific continent

It is clear that whilst European archaeology is still a significant part of the second collection, it is not so dominant as in the founding collection.
