Northern IrelandArrowhead from Northern Ireland, Europe. Part of the Pitt Rivers Founding Collection. Given to the Museum in 1884.

This barbed and tanged arrowhead has been flaked from a lump of brown flint. It was excavated in Ireland and dates from the early Bronze Age or even the Neolithic period.

Arrow heads of a similar size and barbed form have been found in other parts of the world, made out of the materials available in the immediate area. There are, for example, ones on display in the Museum from Peru made out of white quartz, and ones from New Mexico, USA made out of black obsidian.
