Doring and his wife standing in a porch at the top of the stairs leading to their house. Doring is wearing light-coloured silk and has his hair in a top knot. His wife has her hair tied back and is wearing a large amulet box (ga'u) around her neck and a long striped apron. Also standing nearby (left to right) are Captain O'Malley and Sonam Tobden. On the far right is a lesser official in a dark coloured robe and a earring of office. There is a decorated wooden plinth above the distinctive glass-paned windows with a diamond pattern.
