Accession Number:

Description:
A full length portrait of a leopard-skin priest (Kuaar Muon) standing in the shade (of a hut?). Over his shoulder can be seen Evans-Pritchard's tent, a different one without the awning used in earlier fieldwork. To the right is a cattle byre (luak), with eaves reaching almost to the ground. The leopard-skin priest was a ritual rather than political authority, and acted as arbiter in disputes and in ritual activities such as spirit possession and sacrifice.
