January 2 or 6  Gamlen writes to Balfour informing him that the Curators [of the Chest?] have agreed that he be allowed to stay and use up unspet element of previous year's grant. February 12 Alfred Robinson writes to Henry Balfour sending him copies of 2 decrees, proposed by the Committee on Museum Grants and agreed by Council in principle i. that Balfour be appointed Curator for seven years until 31.12.1898 with the same status as the Professors and a salary of £200 p.a. and ii. that £150 be voted for assistance and current expenses p.a. February 13 Balfour writes to Alfred Robinson expressing pleasure at his letter of 12.2.1892 and comments that sum for maintenance is very low (after wages there will only be £50 for upkeep of the museum) and that any estimates of time (eg finishing museum handbook by end of 1892) are provisional since the room extensions that are being prepared are not yet completed. In the entries in the University Gazette publishing the 2 decrees mentioned in 12.2.1892 letter the handbook is said to be completed by end 1893. March 15 Balfour writes to Gamlen requesting that museum maintenance money be deposited in the bank so he can draw on it directly rather than apply to the University Chest each time University Archives, UC/FF/60/2/3
March 19 Gamlen writes to Balfour saying that the allowance for maintenance is not small, payment will be by weekly meeting and £20 will be paid in advance at a time. Balfour must send in requisition before spending anymoney. PRM ms collections PRM papers Box 1 PRM foundation
March 21  Balfour writes again to Gamlen objecting to method of drawing money as he has no means of keeping cash, and wishes to pay by cheque. PRM ms collections PRM papers Box 1 PRM foundation 
March 26 Gamlen writes to Balfour conveying agreement of Curators to his proposals for payment, he must keep proper accounts and submit them for audit. The Chest will send half yearly cheques PRM ms collections PRM papers Box 1 PRM foundation
