Arrow (top), of reed and wood, from Malakula, Vanuatu; part of the Forster collection (part of Forster 144; 1886.1.1196)
Arrow with shaft made from reed and black wooden barbed point made from palm wood or tree fern. The head is secured to the shaft with coconut fibre. The head has three large arrow-head shaped barbs and three smaller barbs. Plant fibre is bound around base of the shaft, to stop the reed from splitting where the end of the arrow has been very lightly notched.
