PRM000127911Nose-flute, fangufangu, of bamboo, from Tonga; part of the Forster collection (Forster 82; 1886.1.1532)

Nose flute of bamboo, closed by a node at either end. A hole near both ends to blow upon and with four finger holes spaced along its length. It has three vandyke bands and one thin band with small lines running off one side at right angles. The centres of the holes are, starting at the end with the AM number written on it, and measuring from the centre of the first hole, at 134 mm, 262 mm, 371 mm, and 516 mm. The hole on the underside is directly opposite the third hole.
