PRM000127899Club, of wood, from Tonga; part of the Forster collection (Forster 71; 1886.1.1438)

The club measures 1135 mm (approx.) in length. The decorated area begins 755 mm from the base. The club measures 130 mm at its widest point. The decoration consists of (from base to tip): three collars, 16 mm wide in total; 45 mm band of carved decoration, central diamond-shape with parallel lines radiating out from each side; five collars, 28 mm wide in total; 54 mm band of carved decoration resembling herringbone twill or chevrons; five collars, 30 mm wide in total; 56 mm band of carved decoration resembling herringbone twill or chevrons; six collars, 38 mm wide in total; 57 mm band of carved decoration resembling herringbone twill or chevrons; 6 collars from 40 to 45 mm wide; the top of the club is concave. The carving is the same on both faces of the club
