Bow and arrow, kaufana, of wood and reed, from Tonga; part of the Forster collection (Forster 67; 1886.1.1260)
Bow and arrow. The bow is naturally curved, and has a notch at one end, presumably for securing the bow string. The bow string itself is missing. A band of plaited coconut fibre has been bound around the bow, 510 mm from the notched end. A groove runs down the bow, on the outside of the curve, approximately 10 mm deep by 8mm wide. The arrow is a grass or reed stem, the hardwood point missing.
