PRM0001310705179Shark hook, of wood and coconut fibre, from the Society Islands (probably Tahiti); part of the Banks collection (1887.1378)

Wooden hook with separate point, bound on with plaited coconut fibre. At the other end of the hook, a snood of plaited coconut fibre forms an attachment for a line. The majority of the binding is dark brown in colour, but it appears that an additional binding has been added at what may be a later date, as the coconut fibre is of a different colour brown, lighter, and with a cleaner appearance
