Trunk, piha, of wood, from the Society Islands (probaby Tahiti); part of the Forster collection (Forster 33; 1886.1.1516)
The trunk comprises three pieces, the main body being a hollowed-out piece of wood, capped at both ends with two more pieces of wood, decorated on the outside with incised zigzags and tied on with plaited coconut fibre. The lugs either side of the central aperture may have been used for tying on a lid (missing)
