Needle, of wood, from the Marquesas Islands; part of the Forster collection (part of Forster 141; 1886.1.1546)

Of dark brown/black wood. The surface is mottled, and there is a slight curve towards the tip. There is a sliver of wood missing at the tip, although the area around the damage is so smooth that this must be very old damage. The needle measures 329 mm in length and 11 mm and the widest point. The eye is egg-shaped, and measures approximately 5 x 6 mm
