Understanding Amulets

We invited three individuals from different walks of life to the Pitt Rivers Museum to look at some of these small and intriguing objects and share their thoughts about them on film.

Mini Museum of Belief - Art critic Andrew Graham-Dixon picks out his favourite amulets from the de Mortillet collection, offering insights into the history of collecting in this era and the persistence of ancient beliefs and superstitions within the context of folk art.

Emotionally Charged Objects - Artist Felicity Powell has worked with several museums and is known for her small-scale work. In this interview she talks about how amulets and the narratives behind them have inspired her as an artist and impacted on her personally.
