Spinning top, Papua New Guinea

Spinning tops have been played with by children all over the world. They can be played with alone or in groups. In competition, players can try to achieve the longest spin, or, more aggressively, can try to knock over their opponent’s top. This top is made from a pierced coconut shell on a wooden shaft. It has a hole in it, so that it hums as it spins.
