Toy ship, Thailand

This coconut-husk ship from Thailand both entertains and teaches. It was made to be launched by children in imitation of the ‘spirit ships’ used by adults in a ritual to cast off sickness. However, children also played with them as fighting ships. The collector who donated this ship to the Museum found it floating in a river.
