Torque, Cameroon

Torques are rigid metal neck rings. They are often constructed from solid metal and may be extremely heavy. This copper torque from Cameroon weighs five pounds, more than two kilos. In West and Central Africa, heavy metal jewellery was often worn around the neck, arms, and legs as a display of wealth.
