Model Headrest, Japan

Unlike pillows, headrests allow the head to remain cool in hot climates, and are less likely to crush elaborate hairstyles. This lacquered wooden block from Japan is a model of a headrest used by a lady for this purpose. It also has a drawer in which to store hair ornaments.
