This comb from the Solomon Islands is made from wood, ornamented with red and yellow grasswork. In the Solomon Islands, a lot of attention was paid to decorating the head. Combs were usually worn as ornaments rather than for untangling hair. Combs like this one were worn, decorated with red streamers, by young men on their first expedition to catch bonito fish. This comb was collected between 1870 and 1873.
