Body ornament, China

This object has been made by feather enamelling. Enamelling refers to the process of inlaying a coloured glass-like substance into a metal surface, but in this instance blue kingfisher feathers have been inlaid. The feathers are cut up and then pasted into the metal base. This ornament is in a stylized bird form. It was bought in the city of Siu Fui, in Szechuan province, in China, in 1907.
