A group of Khampa men, probably in Gyantse. They all carry staffs and carry loads upon their backs. They are standing in front of a mani wall in which a number of inscribed stones can be seen.

The colour of the stoney landscape was remarkable in its great variety. There was almost no vegetation to speak of, and yet the rocks were a display of different colours and shades from violet to sandy brown' [MS 04/08/2006]
