Lhalu Lhacham (Lady Lhalu) standing with a one-storey building in the background against a wall of which are pitched two tents. She is wearing a beaded Lhasa headress decorated with corals and seed pearls, ear decorations and an amulet box necklace. Her robe is of bracade silk and she is wearing a striped apron.

Other Information - People: F Spencer Chapman writes in Lhasa: The Holy City, 1938, London: Chatto and Windus, p. 319, "The lady of Lhalu was of middle age and extremely stout. She wore the most wonderful jewellery, and was more made-up than any Tibetan woman I had seen. Being the daughter of one Kung and the widow of another, she is one of the first ladies of Lhasa. ... Our hostess was wonderfully good company. She and Tsarong, who were old friends, exchanged lively repartee throughout the meal. The lunch was excellent, but our indefatigable hostess made us eat far more than we wanted, and absolutely forced us to drink quantities of excellent but most potent chang..."
