Manual Catalogues - Bell's List of Illustrations entry: "[No. of chapter] XXVII. [Subject of Chapter] Amusements. [Subject of Illustration] Similar view to (a) [Q.108], but without the Simkapas. This gives a good view of the stage. [Remarks] L.145"
Other Information - Setting: Bell's diary entry for 5th August 1921: "We came to Norbu Lingka at 4.45pm and saw the Gyang-ka-ras performing the play called Re-chung-nga. ... Each side of the stage, except that in front of us, is lined with spectators. To our right are the ecclesiastical officials (Jetrung); to our left the lay officials (Trungkhor). On the roof of the printing houses to our left are the Dalai Lama's bodyguard watching the performance. Yesterday the stage was uncovered; today a huge tent roof of Tibetan design covers it" [MS 4/6/2004]
