Description:
Penannular bracelet made from a iron bar with roughly square section, bent into an oval loop with open ends, 18 mm apart.
The upper, lower and inside edges are flat, but the outer face is slightly convex.
The ends have been cut flat, but are worn and slightly rounded.
The surface has been polished, and is currently a metallic grey (Pantone 422C).
There appear to be some dark black inclusions in the metal, particularly on its inner face.
The bracelet is complete and intact.
It measures 61.2 by 52.6 mm across its outer edges, and 52 mm across its inside edges, while the bar from which it has been formed has a width of 5.5 mm and a thickness of 5.2 mm.
The weight is 30.3 grams.
Collected by Percy Horace Gordon Powell-Cotton and his wife Hannah on the road to Tambura on 29th April 1933, during a shooting expedition. The Zande name for this type of object is said to be benga.
