Skirt, of plant fibre, from the Society Islands; part of the Forster collection (Forster 36,'an Otaheitian fisherman's petticoat of coloured threads/filaments/of bark'; 1886.1.1179)

This skirt is made of lengths of bast fibre (probably hibiscus) knotted around a plant-fibre waistband; some parts appear to have been coloured with a red/orange dye. (Maximum length 760mm, maximum width 630mm
