Chisel, tohi, of wood, bone, and coconut fibre, from the Society Islands (probably Tahiti); part of the Banks collection (1886.1.390)
Wooden handle, approximately 170 mm long, shaped at one end and recessed to take a 'blade' made from bone. The end of the bone is bevelled to form a chisel-like edge. The bone is bound to the wooden handle using plaited coconut fibre cord. 42 mm of the bone protrudes from the wooden handle
