Bident spear head from Georgia, Europe. Collected by W. R. Barber around 1899. Given to the Museum by Percy Manning in 1911.
This distinctive, two-pronged (or 'bident') spear head was probably a ceremonial weapon used in the Caucasus in what is now Georgia on the cusp of Europe and Asia. The steel blades have reinforced tips and floral and scrolled decoration in silver inlay on their lower sections, which extends down on to the socket.
