Crocodile breastplate (1884.31.1) 

EgyptEgyptCrocodile breastplate from Egypt, Africa. Part of the Pitt Rivers Museum Founding Collection. Given to the Museum in 1884.


This unusual breastplate is made of the horny back plates (scutes) of a crocodile. The Nile Crocodile can live to 100 years old and is the second largest species of crocodile in the world, reaching up to 20 feet (6 metres) in length.
