Bell's List of Illustrations entry for H.65: "[No. of chapter] IV. [Subject of Chapter] History up to 1900. [Subject of illustration] H65 (s) Potala Sho Doring, inscription on upper portion of northern face. [Where placed - Book page] I, 272. [Remarks] L.32 [lantern slide 32]"
Other Information - Related Images: Bell does not distinguish in his list of illustrations between H.65a and H.65b [1998.285.71 & 1998.285.72]. However, the images are in fact quite different and may even be of different faces of the Doring as in 1998.285.72 mountains and trees are visible in the background, and in 1998.285.71 the face of the pillar seems to have been chipped on the central right-hand side. The lantern slide succeeds in making much more of the inscription visible and was made from 1998.285.72 [MS 14/5/2004]
