In Negative - There is a slight scratch in the bottom left hand corner of the negative, somewhat reminiscent of the scratches that are made to identify images taken by Evan Yorke Nepean [YN.XX] but not completed [MS 09/03/2006]
Other Information - Setting: August 2nd: "The march started in drizzling rain along a very muddy more or less level track until a mile above Kargyu Gompa we went very steeply downhill. Everywhere masses of lovely wild flowers abounded, the most noticeable being a red wild rose, and a lovely small azalea covered with white or creamy blossom" ['Lhasa Mission, 1936: Diary of Events', part 1, written by Brig. Other Information - Description: " Gould and I walked all the way to the monastery. I collected flowers. ... The path ran gently downhill among pine trees for several miles then quite suddenly came out at the top of an open bank sloping steeply down to Kargyu monastery. // This south-facing slope was a veritable flower garden. ... Away down below we can see the winding river of the Chumbi valley set among a chequer-work of fields, green and gold and brown. Villages of grey roofed chalets cluster at the foot of the heavily wooded hill-sides. ...// The monastery of Kargyu, on the spur of a hill commanding the Chumbi valley, looks lovely from above with its ash-grey shingle roof and brightly painted walls."
