January 22nd, Friday.

Rai Bahadur Norbhu left us today. He is going down to Calcutta to have his teeth seen to. Following the Tibetan custom we all accompanied him for the first few miles of his journey then, dismounting from our horses, we exchanged scarves with him.

Sonam Kazi will carry on this most responsible job until Norbhu's return.
