Ceremony at Trapchi / Trapshi [Chipsha] - were given a tent by govt. - “parade of armed men who have to take part in the ceremonies of the next day or so” [MS Or Richardson 3 folio 72] - Chipsha ceremony
Saturday 6th March 1937
24th Day of 1st Tibetan month - ‘show’ near the Cathedral. Torgyap ceremony. 10.30 am went to a tent on a roof opposite the Cathedral - demon skull with ‘goggling eyes’ procession from inside - attendants of the Nechung Oracle and Oracle himself
Sunday 7th March 1937
5.30 am - ‘show’ near the Cathedral. Writes letter to parents [MS Or Richardson 3 folio 73]. Describes going to “another roof” in the town to see the image of Champa the coming Buddha outside the Cathedral - procession leaves Cathedral before dawn [MS Or Richardson 3 folio 74] - procession followed by riderless horserace outside town

Shooting competition 10am - 6pm. Lunched with Tsarong and Lhalu

Very bad dust storm - small lunch party and cinema show for Ladakhi Mohammedans - “We told 70 to come at a time but at least 200 arrived this evening” [MS Or Richardson 3 folio 76]. Comments that he has heard that Finch must leave Gyantse
