The photographs in this series were taken by Wilfred Thesiger during a short stopover in Bahrain in the spring of 1950. In this series there are a number of remarkable images of kotias, large double-masted dhows, moored off Bahrain Island. During his travels in the Arabian Peninsula, Thesiger was often captivated by the construction and use of traditional Arabian sailing vessels, and images of dhows appear frequently in his collection.
