Bil Ghaith

Half length portrait of Bil Ghaith, one of Wilfred Thesiger's Hejaz guides, in JizanBil Ghaith was a teenage boy when he first met Wilfred Thesiger at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in 1946. Thesiger commissioned Bil Ghaith, a member of the Harb Bedouin tribe of the Wadi al Ahsabah, to join the small team for his 1946 expedition through the Hejaz, 'Asir and Tihamah regions. When Thesiger returned to Saudi Arabia the following year, Bil Ghaith rejoined him for his 1947 journey through the Hejaz region.
